“George, George,” she exclaimed. “What is the matter? Are you ill?”

“Of course I am ill, Lydia. As I predicted,” he said miserably, “I have caught a chill thanks to the proud Mr Darcy.”

“A chill?”

“Yes, I got caught in the rain yesterday. But thanks to Lizzy’s kind and understanding husband, I had no warm place to go afterwards. I was still wet when I got back.”

“Oh my poor George. Is there anything I can do?”

“I think a warm bath would help. Alas there is no bath in this wretched place.”
